Create your own hang tag template using Avery Design Pro:
Although I am sure this program is intended for use with Avery brand labels, they do have a custom label template feature. This allows you to create your own templates - for labels or for hang tags – and therefore will work with any label or tag sheet you purchase, Avery brand or otherwise.
1. When ADP opens select “Design from Scratch” or from the design screen you can click on File>New>Project from Scratch. Make sure you have INKJET & LASER LABELS selected in the FORMAT box. (you will be setting up your template exactly as you would if they were adhesive labels)
If you are creating a custom label that does not have a corresponding Avery size (like our hang tags) follow these simple instructions:
1. From the opening window select Design from Scratch, then click on the Custom button on the right side of the Create Template window.
2. In the next window enter a unique item number, making sure your unique ID is not a match to any of the pre-existing Avery ID numbers (you can also use text, for example, you could name your template soap label 2x2 instead of assigning it a number).
3. Next enter a name for your template. Choose your panel shape, then enter the number of panels. (i.e. in this case a PANEL is a label) For PANEL MARGINS enter side margin in HORIZONTAL and top margin in VERTICAL. For PANEL size, enter label size. For PANEL SPACING, enter measurement that corresponds to space between labels both horizontally and vertically.
4. Select Insert > Text and a text box will be inserted for you. You can now begin your design.
5. Right click inside the text box to quickly select or change the font for that text box. Your frequently used formatting tools are available on the Text toolbar.
6. When you select multiple objects, a frame with eight handles appears around all the objects. If the handles are white, you can resize the multiple objects. If the handles are black, you can move the objects, but not resize them. Edits are applied to all selected objects.
*VERY IMPORTANT: NEVER CREATE YOUR DESIGN ON THE MASTER TAB. SELECT ‘LABEL ONE’ AND CREATE YOUR DESIGN IN THERE. IF YOU DESIGN YOUR LABEL ON THE MASTER TAB ADJUSTMENTS THAT ARE NECESSARY FOR PROPER PRINTING ALIGNMENT CAN NOT BE MADE. THEREFORE IT IS CRUCIAL THAT YOUR ORIGINAL LABEL DESIGN BE CREATED IN LABEL 1, THEN COPIED AND PASTED INTO SUBSEQUENT TABS.
